Premiere: Fork & Knife + Tigs – ‘Bring Your Crew’ (Common Underground Remix) [Forthcoming Raw Tactics]

Bring Your Crew Artwork.jpg

Raw Tactics are on a roll as label boss Tigs teams up with London based Fork & Knife on their latest release

We’ve been really liking what Raw Tactics have been putting out as of late and it seems like they have no intentions of letting up, delivering 3 new weighty, versatile cuts into our inbox; the label’s next release sees head honcho join forces with Fork & Knife on two originals with a seriously good remix of the title track from Australian duo, Common Underground.

‘Bring Your Crew’ is a chunky slice of two step that centres around a catchy riff, a high-cut vocal and frantic (yet immaculate) percussion teetering on the edge of Garage and UK Bass; whilst 2-step rhythms are in play, the majority of the low end is provided by the heavily distorted kick drum and there’s plenty of hi-hat triplets thrown in for good measure. The non-committal to either camp doesn’t stop it being a banger, and that riff will definitely bury itself in your sub-conscious

‘Like This’ follows the ‘catchy riff x filtered’ vocal pattern, but is a very sick tune in itself. Whilst giving off a slight Funky vibe owing to the drums, it’s a Grime-y UK Bass tune anchored by gritty 808s and scattershot snares. There’s plenty of percussion on top of everything else to bring more momentum and really drive home the fact that Raw Tactics aren’t lacking in artists who can program very very good drums.

Common Underground’s remix of ‘Bring Your Crew’, premiered by ourselves, grabs the original riff and vocal by the scruff of the neck and launches it firmly into UK Bass territory. The combination of massive 808s, tech-y lead line and attention to detail in the drum work puts us firmly in mind of Hypho, which can never be a bad thing.

You can hear the premiere of Fork & Knife + Tigs – ‘Bring Your Crew’ (Common Underground Remix) below, and the whole release is due out 13/04/18.

Premiere: KSO x Eddie Craig – ‘Dub For Ya Speaker’ ft Dread MC & Tengu (NuBass Remix)

IMG-20180322-WA0000.jpg

The rapidly rising NuBass is on remix duties for Kissy Sellout’s latest release, featuring some massive names

Kissy Sellout is keeping the pressure on with a collection of huge remixes of his second single from his forthcoming album, enlisting the production talents of NuBass, Virtue and Zurra.

The credits for the original mix of ‘Dub For Ya Speaker’ read like an Allstar collection of the UK underground, with The Wideboys’ Eddie Craig, Dread MC and Tengu all involved. A breaks infused Bassline anthem, each remix puts a new spin on things.

The NuBass version, which has been premiered by ourselves, brings fresh energy as an in-your-face, all out Bassline stomper centring on Dread’s tough vocals and a rinsing, metallic bass. Virtue comes through with a hefty drum and bass roller whilst Zurra has opted for a pounding tech-house approach.

You can stream the premiere of NuBass’ remix below (which is released this Friday, 6/4/18), with ‘Dub For Ya Speaker’ set for release on KSO’s forthcoming album.

Premiere: Witchdoctor – 6AM [Forthcoming Downplay Recordings]

DWN003_Web

2 of the freshest new forces in UKG team up on a blissfully sweet release

Since Slime Recordings started their sister label, Downplay, they’ve worked hand in hand with a collection UK Garage’s new crop of exciting producers, and their next EP stays true to that formula – this time pairing up with highly rated up and comer, Witchdoctor who has provided the goods on his second full EP, ‘6AM’.

If you haven’t heard of Witchdoctor until now, we strongly advise you go and check out all of his tunes to date. He’s clearly a hugely capable producer across the spectrum of underground UK music, including Bass House and Bassline, but UK Garage is where he really seems to be at home.

The EP kicks off with ‘Champagne’, pre-empting the forthcoming Summer with an array of glistening chords, staccato strings and flashes of vocal over 2step drums and rolling snares. ‘Wot U R’ is also on a feel good vibe, though this time Witchdoctor has opted for big, skippy 4×4 drums that lay the foundation for more bubblegum vocals and gorgeous keys – a Summer anthem in the making.

The title track, premiered over on our Soundcloud, is the darkest track of the 3 and probably the most dancefloor focused.

Title track ‘6AM’ takes another path entirely, with a low-slung 4X4 rhythm guiding the beat across chord washes and a rolling bassline that gives the production a full-on warehouse bumpy bubbler taste that’ll have the floor full in no time.

– Downplay Recordings

Witchdoctor – 6AM is out on Downplay Recordings on 6/4/18. Preview the title track below.

Premiere: Heritage – Docklands [Forthcoming Dissident Sound]

Brand new label Dissident Sound get dark and moody on their debut release

Brighton’s underground scene is one to be envious of right now with all of the artists involved pulling in the right direction and now young producers Movement and Blends have set up Dissident Sound as a home for deeper cuts.

The debut release comes from both of them working together under the Heritage alias and sets the tone for the label straight away – DS001 is cold, dark and spacious.

‘Docklands’, premiered by ourselves, is comprised of rattling, panning hats, dubbed out breaks and booming, falling subs tied to heavy kicks. ‘Destination’ puts us in mind of where Hessle Audio was at a few years ago; simple rolling subs with influences of techno and a lot of the tonality coming from the percussion itself. ‘Expedition’ has a similar vibe, with some incredibly satisfying filtered breaks and ‘The Garden’ is the track most akin to UKG with a sharp 2step rhythm marching over the deepest bassline on the release.

Production standards on all 4 tracks are sky high, with brilliant use of space and a magnificent weight to each. The influences of Breaks, UKG, Techno and Dubstep are all allowed to bleed into the release in perfect measure – neither one taking centre stage at any point.

Heritage – DS001 is out on Dissident Sound on 26/3/18 and you can stream ‘Docklands’ below.

Premiere: Daze Prism – ‘2005’ (Nixon Remix) [Forthcoming Articulate Records]

29101691_10155895335645358_1487163040766885888_n

Daze Prism adds to his rapidly growing catalogue of releases with yet another masterpiece, including 3 remixes and an incredible VIP

It seems to us like every week this year Daze Prism has another release out, somehow managing to maintain a his impeccable production standards whilst still being prolific. He’s back again this time on Articulate Records, with whom he released ‘Tektonix’ EP back in July last year.

We’re excited to premiere the Nixon remix of ‘2005’, which Articulate have done a very good job of describing –

“The Punks and breakbeat veteran “Nixon” comes on board and delivers exactly what you would expect from the legend himself. His variation of “2005” brings classic breakbeat rolling drums, a big, dark gritty reese bassline and perfectly entwines them with rhodes keys and the flawless riff to take on a more melodic approach.”

The rest of the EP is equally as tasteful with the title track contrasting euphoric pianos and sugary sweet vocals with massive dark Reeses and sharp breaks. Ali McK & IYZ put their typically lively UK Funky spin on things as they opt for a big bassline flowing between the gaps left by their precise drums and a weaving flute riff and Nuaura complete the remix lineup, bringing sinister horns, rasping basslines and vocal chops to their UK Bass take on the track; hold tight for the 4×4 switch on the second drop too. Rounding the release up is Daze Prism’s VIP which sees him trade euphoria for an apocalyptic, face melting bass.

Daze Prism – ‘2005’ is out on 16/3/18 and you can stream the Nixon remix in full below.

Premiere: Zemon – Atoms [Forthcoming Raw Tactics Records

Zemon Atoms cover

Zemon continues his hot streak with 3 huge new tunes as Raw Tactic’s resurgence continues.

Just over a month has passed since Zemon’s brilliant ‘Bosh, Dinner!’ EP and he’s back again with some more gritty Garage, this time on Raw Tactic’s – who themselves are on good form after Tigs’ ‘Don’t Get Rude’ EP.

The title track (premiered by ourselves) opens with tense, rumbling basses, sketchy percussion and a sampled vocal as a simple lead filters out ahead of the drop. Choppy drums and really dark, dangerous basses provide the main section meaning you can’t help but skank out and screw your face up. The second drop is similar, bar the addition of bigger, fatter bass to the mix. Extra credit to Zemon for the pitched Timpani drums too – they sound sick!

On the rest of the EP, ‘Rough Sea’ sees Zemon opt for a pounding 4×4 drum pattern and a combination of rattling chainsaw basses whilst ‘Stroll’ is made up of a chunky rolling bassline, scattershot snares and a haunting, soulful flash of vocal.

Zemon – ‘Atoms’ EP is out on Raw Tactics Records, 5/3/18. Listen to the premiere of the title track below:

Premiere: Ozwald – Attention Seeker [Forthcoming Resonate Sounds]

27604928_10215062933789450_2060374841_o

Resonate Sounds’ 4th release is a slick 2 tracker from Ozwald

After heavy support on their past releases from Priceless, Sammy Virji and Resonate resident High Class Filter, the London based collective-turned record label are back with fresh music from Ozwald.

After his massive standout release, ‘Raspberry Flutes’, on RKS Dubz, Ozwald’s latest EP consists of 2 melodic yet bass heavy UKG bangers. ‘Burgundy Methods’ is a brass inspired rinseout as the rasping bassline marches up and down bulky drums and bright flashes of organ intersperse. ‘Attention Seeker’ is an energetic 2 stepper based around a very chunky kick and a simple but effective bass riff. These act as a foundation for vibrant stabs, shuffling percussion and a bubbly arpeggiated lead sweet enough to give you tooth ache.

We’re premiering the brilliant title track on our Soundcloud which you can stream down below. You can pre-order Ozwald’s ‘Attention Seeker’ EP, out on Resonate Sounds 2/2/18, here.
