Brand new label Dissident Sound get dark and moody on their debut release
Brighton’s underground scene is one to be envious of right now with all of the artists involved pulling in the right direction and now young producers Movement and Blends have set up Dissident Sound as a home for deeper cuts.
The debut release comes from both of them working together under the Heritage alias and sets the tone for the label straight away – DS001 is cold, dark and spacious.
‘Docklands’, premiered by ourselves, is comprised of rattling, panning hats, dubbed out breaks and booming, falling subs tied to heavy kicks. ‘Destination’ puts us in mind of where Hessle Audio was at a few years ago; simple rolling subs with influences of techno and a lot of the tonality coming from the percussion itself. ‘Expedition’ has a similar vibe, with some incredibly satisfying filtered breaks and ‘The Garden’ is the track most akin to UKG with a sharp 2step rhythm marching over the deepest bassline on the release.
Production standards on all 4 tracks are sky high, with brilliant use of space and a magnificent weight to each. The influences of Breaks, UKG, Techno and Dubstep are all allowed to bleed into the release in perfect measure – neither one taking centre stage at any point.
Heritage – DS001 is out on Dissident Sound on 26/3/18 and you can stream ‘Docklands’ below.
