The PAR gang aren’t shy about introducing new talent and they’ve struck gold again

Burt Cope has been on our radar a long time, releasing consistently good music through free download platforms such as Pack London, Articulate Sound and Gassed Bristol to name a few and it’s no surprise to us he’s been picked up by scene heavyweights, Project Allout Records.

PAR have a good track history with bringing through fresh talent, most notably recently with Nadine’s debut EP, ‘Motions’, and this latest attempt looks to have the potential to be, at the very least, as successful.

The EP itself, ‘Call My Name’ contains 4 original tracks from Burt that consist of what is starting to be his signature sound – strong influences of old school Bassline and flashes of UKG blended together to create a more modern in keeping with the sound of today’s Bassline.

The title track consists of catchy vocals and pads, big shuffling 4×4 drums, wobbly basslines and fleeting dub effects. The breakdown is inspired, drafting in old school drum breaks.

The rest of the EP carries on in similar fashion with ‘Jank’ sampling an AJ Tracey song in a way that is gonna result in instant wheelups up and down the country. ‘Fiya’ draws yet more influence from the old school with dusty stabs and ragga samples over the top of a squelching bassline. Rounding things off, ‘Rude Boi’ is another wobbler based around clever use of the main vocal.

You can stream previews of all of the tracks on Burt Cope – Call My Name below and buy the release here.

Nadine returns to Project Allout with a collaborative EP

It was back in February when Nadine dropped her debut EP, and proved herself not only to be one of the best DJs in UK Bass, but also a talented producer, which in turn resulted in her debut international booking and a run of headline slots.

artworks-000241308649-b56sbv-t500x500

This weeks Sunday Selection is from newcomer Witchdoctor, courtesy of Pack London.

We can’t help but get excited when we see a brand new, upcoming artist championing new UK Garage so we had to see what this mix from Witchdoctor was saying and we’re glad we did.

At just over 50 minutes long, Witchdoctor starts with smooth vibes before taking a journey through increasingly tougher sounds, with tunes from Mind of a Dragon, Sammy Virji, Moony and more. There’s a couple of UK Funky tracks thrown in to shake things up, and there’s also a few of his own forthcoming tunes in there, showing that Witchdoctor is more than just a talented selector.

Stream ‘Introducing Witchdoctor: Pack London Exclusive Mix’ below. It’s also available to download direct from Soundcloud.

Murder He Wrote’s ‘Flavoured Vol 2’ is here

The London based producer comes through with yet more Summer tinged UK Funky

Cast your mind back to June earlier this year and you may remember a couple of weeks of blistering sunshine, blue skies and the feeling that here in the UK we might actually have a decent summer.  Soundtracking those weeks for us was Murder He Wrote’s ‘Flavoured Vol 1’, and in particular, ‘That Love’ – a feel good, UK Funky anthem made for days in the sun.

3 months on and it seems that good old British Summetime is over and done with. Murder He Wrote, however, has different plans – ‘Flavoured Vol 2’ is here and it’s full to the brim with vibes.

From the lush, old school house chords and soulful vocals of ‘Club Soda’ to the euphoric piano and 4×4 drums of ‘Smoke & Lasers’, the brass x steel drum x huge bassline combination on ‘Seed Riddim’, to ‘Never You”s samba whistles and sample chopping, Murder He Wrote has yet again come through with the goods and shown once more why he’s one of, if not the most consistent producers in UK Funky right now.

You can buy Murder He Wrote – ‘Flavoured Vol 2’ here, and stream it in full below.

J69 has gone back to his roots, exploring his Bassline back catalogue.

We’d be very surprised if there were any current UK Bass producers from Sheffield that weren’t heavily influenced by old school Bassline in one way or another,  and J69 has decided to celebrate his origins with his latest release.

‘The Collection’ is a 10 track album made up of J69 productions, spanning between 2010 -and 2015. Aiming to take the listener back to the early 2000s, when Bassline peaked the first time, the release also features some previously unheard material, including a couple of VIPs.

Highlights include the rolling pianos of ‘Jay’s Fear 3’, the weighty, frantic bass on ‘Killin It VIP’ and ‘I Need Your Love”s soulful, pitched vocals.

J69 dropped ‘The Collection’ for free, exclusively on BandCamp here and you can stream the album below:

Following on from their massive launch night, the lineup for WOB! #2 has dropped

Back in July, Birmingham based event WOB! launched with quite possibly the biggest lineup we’ve ever seen for a debut night. Nadine, Notion, DJ EJ, Bassboy and JG all played, and as expected, the night went off.

WOB! Debut event – Notion, Bassboy b2b J.G, DJ EJ & Nadine [Review]

WOB! are now set to return, with their second event taking place at Digbeth’s Monastery on September 23rd with another sick lineup; as well as WOB! residents Rhys Bowker, D Moore, Oje and Tom Fire, Jay Faded will be going b2b with Frazah and Jack Junior is set to go b2b with DJ Smallz.

With a special guest headliner still to announce, we’ve no doubt WOB!’s second outing will be as mad as the first. You can find the Facebook Event here, and buy tickets for WOB! #2 here.
